Valentyn has several areas of activity. As First Deputy General Director for Science Affairs of the SSI "Institute of Single Crystals" and Director of the Division of Functional Materials Chemistry, he coordinates the development of the institution`s chemical science, pharmacy and medicinal-oriented chemistry, and other chemical areas. Valentyn is also the head of the department of organic and bioorganic chemistry, whose main activities are related to organic synthesis and chemistry of heterocyclic compounds, the development of medical and pharmaceutical chemistry.
In addition, as the Head of the Department of Applied Chemistry at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Valentyn is responsible for organizing the educational and scientific processes of the department and teaching disciplines to university students.

Her main areas of expertise are radiation biology, radiation ecology, and nuclear and radiation safety. Currently, Olena's work focuses on the impact of microorganisms on the availability and migration of radionuclides in the environment and on the revision of nuclear safety standards that should be changed in connection with Russia's armed attacks on Ukrainian nuclear facilities.
